WTF is Internal links?

Links from your pages to your other pages.

In plain English

The links that connect your own site together and tell Google which pages matter most.

Why you should care

The cheapest ranking lever you control. Point them at the pages that make money.

Why this is the cheapest lever you have

You control every one of them. No outreach, no budget, no waiting for somebody else to decide you deserve a link. Point more of them at the pages that make money and Google updates its sense of what your site is about.

The three mistakes

  • Everything links to the homepage. The homepage is already fine. Link to the service page.
  • Anchor text says 'click here'. That tells Google nothing. Describe the destination.
  • New pages get one link, from the sitemap. That's an orphan with extra steps.

A page with one incoming internal link is telling Google it isn't important. If it is important, link to it from somewhere that already gets traffic.
