Asked by: Business owner
Can I keep my current PPC vendor and just hire you for SEO?
Yes. That's a normal arrangement and often the right one. If paid is working, replacing it to win a bigger contract would be bad advice.
Agencies hate this question because the honest answer costs them revenue. But there's no technical reason SEO and paid have to live under one roof, and plenty of reasons to leave a performing vendor alone. Switching costs are real: account history, learning periods, conversion data, the relationship.
What does need to be agreed
- Who owns the landing pages. If I restructure a page the paid team is sending money to, we both lose. Decide this before, not after.
- Who owns conversion tracking. One GA4 property, one set of key events, both teams reading the same numbers.
- Who reports what. Two reports that count the same lead twice is how a good month becomes an argument.
- One point of contact on your side. Not a committee.
Where the seams actually are
Branded search is the usual one. Paid will bid your brand name, organic already owns it, and the conversions get claimed twice. It's worth one conversation and a test, not a fight.
If it turns out later that you want it under one roof, that's a decision you make on evidence. Several accounts have started with one channel and expanded once there was something to point at.
What we'd actually do
Follow-ups
Will you talk to my other vendor?
Yes, happily, if you want that. Some owners prefer to be the middle. Either works as long as it's decided.
Do you need access to the ad account?
Read access helps, because the queries that convert in paid are the best content brief you'll ever get. Not required.
Want this done on your site?
Tell me what's going on. You'll get a straight answer, including if that answer is that you don't need me.
