An llms.txt is a plain-text index that hands AI crawlers a map of your site instead of making them guess. It takes about an hour to do by hand. This does the boring part — grouping and ranking your URLs — and leaves you the descriptions, because those are the part that actually matters and a script can't write them honestly.
Open yoursite.com/sitemap.xml, select all, paste it here. Nested sitemap index files work too — paste whichever one holds the actual page URLs.
Before you upload it: replace every [bracketed] description with a real sentence. The descriptions are the whole value — a list of URLs with placeholder text is worse than no file, because it tells a crawler the map is finished. Then drop it at yoursite.com/llms.txt.
Is this worth doing? Honestly: it's cheap and takes an hour, and nobody has proven it moves anything yet. We build them for clients and stay skeptical. The things that actually move AI citations are here, and ours is here if you want to see a finished one.
